Hi!  My name is Mikko Anttonen (A.K.A. "Freaky Mike") and I work as a traditional blacksmith and jewelry artist in one small village in the eastern part of Finland. I'm pretty mad on science fiction- & fantasy art/literature, historical times and metal music as well.. I have always liked drawing and making objects from metal, wood and other natural materials.

Link to my personal web gallery: - (Text is mainly in Finnish..)

I drew a lot, when I was a kid.. In my teenage years that went to the backround, but after 2002 I got extremely interested it again, and draw and paint a lot of scifi- and fantasy themed works etc. (Mainly in Wacom tablet and Photoshop.)
I have made all kind of metalworks for hobby over ten years and I started finally my own business in 2007. My workshop is situated in one over hundred years old  barn house in our farmyard  and it's called "Taidetakomo Astalo" so I decide to use it also my nick in here. (Astalo is really a finnish name for temporary striking weapon.)

Many people have asked, that do i sell my metal works in online or make some commissions in there, but i have to say no for all of them.
I have already so much work to do in our farm/forests and my little company, that i don't have any meaningful reasons to expand my "business" to outside Finland.. I started to post my works here, because it's quite interesting to hear some feedback and comments also from around the world, and not only from my local circles and customers.

Sorry about typos.. English is not my native language. :)

Olihan se oikein mielenkiintoiselta vaikuttava kelloprojekti. Meinasitko suuntautua jatkossa enemmänkin dieselpunkin suuntaan? :)
windsormagistus Featured By Owner Jul 23, 2015  Professional Artisan Crafter
no en pelkästään siihen suuntaan, mutta kylä tuo oman designin ajausmaailma on viime aikoina pyöriny aika paljon sillä suunnalla, kyllä olis tarkotus tehdä ihan perinteisiä klassisiakin malleja, ja ehkä jotain militaria tyylisiä juttuja -mahdollisesti. inspiraatioita ja ideoita kun tunnetusti tulee ja menee aina miten sattuu :D

Ok.

Hello Mikko, I am trying to make telescoping things myself, could you give me a description of how you made the axe spike, and does it lock?
Astalo Featured By Owner Edited Jun 15, 2015  Professional Artisan Crafter
I made special sleeves/bushings with lathe and welded them for the steel tube ends. There is conical shapes inside the bushings and similar cone counterpart also in back end of the spike, and when you open the weapon with centrifugal force all moving parts stick together quite tightly for that most long position.
Not probably very good design, because it's lock sometimes so tight, that i need copper mallet for pushing spike and center tube back inside the axe.. :P

That thing was made about 15 years ago and if i need to make something similar in nowadays, i would put maybe some kind of threads for the ends. That would turn the whole telecope structure much more solid.
